Sorry For The Neglect (But I Was Eating Well!)

I spent the weekend in Dallas, so I wasn't able to post any blogs, but I was able to write--so stay tuned to some refreshing entries.

I did want to share my interesting dining experience while I was in Dallas. I was treated to The French Room (ooh la la!). I am not really what one would consider a foodie, but I loved it. The atmosphere was great and the food was even better. Some of the accolades The French Room has received:
*The 2006/2007 Zagat Survey named it the #1 hotel restaurant in America.
* Travel & Leisure chose it for its rankings of “America’s Top 50 Restaurants” and the “twenty-five best dining experiences in the world.”
* USA Today recently featured the Zagat Survey's 100 Top Hotel Restaurants in America. Based on on food quality, decor, and service, The French Room is #1.....
* "The French Room is only one of two Zagat rated restaurants worldwide to receive ratings of 29 (of 30) across the board in the last five years." - Tim Zagat
* "A Religious Experience....Five Stars for Food, Service, and Ambiance" - Dallas Morning News
* "One of World's Top 25 Dining Experiences" - Travel & Leisure Magazine
* "Top 11 American Restaurants" - AOL Food
We dined on exquisite French cuisine under 18-foot cathedral ceilings covered by frescoes. Louis XVI high-back chairs, silver, crystal and fine china exuding Old World grandeur rounded out the experience. I was pleasantly suprised by the amuse-bouche: pork loin served with diced watermelon and curry. The amuse-bouche is served right before the hors d'oeuvres and literally means "to amuse the mouth." It sets the tone for the meal to come and give you a glimpse to the chef's approach to cooking. Under the romantic glow of a single taper candle, I indulged on Maine Lobster with white asparagus soup. Between the first and second course, we were presented with an intermezzo to cleanse the palate: refreshing raspberry sorbet. What I liked most about the intermezzo was the presentation! It was served in this lovely glass lilly that was frosted in the freezer. I almost thought it was an ice form. Presentation is everything and, unfortunately, I didn't have my camera. For my second course, my gulf red snapper was broiled to perfection, with three large gulf shrimp garnishing it and served with steal-cut oat risotto. The second intermezzo was banana soup with a banana nut crouton. And for my final act, I finished with the French Room chocolate souffle.
It is almost sinful to eat such rich and sumptuous food all in one sitting! And we only had the three course meal. Can you believe that they offer a prix-fixe thirteen course meal? My favorites included not what was on my plate, but what was on my friend's plate: the signature jumbo lump crab cake served with lemongrass-ginger infused lobster sauce and perfectly seared pecan encrusted foie gras. My absolute favorite: white chocolate and goat cheese polenta. I wanted seconds and thirds although they would seem to be such strange bed fellows, the white chocolate and goat cheese. . .
As you can see, I can talk about this food all day! And I haven't even mentioned the impeccable service (three cheers for Francisco!). But, I wanted to let you all know why I hadn't been posting in the last few days. The French Room and the Adolphus Hotel get my recommendation if you are in the Dallas area. Now--back to our regularly scheduled program. . .

Our Loss is Your Gain

Sad news, Indy. . .we'll be losing a couture bridal shop =(

La Bella Bride of Zionsville will be closing its doors at the end of April. Tracy Heine, the owner, understandably wants to spend more time with her family. That's too bad, because I hate to see the personal and service-oriented bridal shops fall by the wayside to the big box bridal stores.

So that's the bad news.

The good news is:
All bridal gowns are 25% to 75% off!! With the closing of La Bella Bride, you have the rare opportunity to save thousands on a couture wedding gown. Gowns normally priced from $1,500 to $6,000 will be priced from just $649! La Bella Bride features some of the best names in bridal fashion: Justina McCaffrey, Romona Keveza, Amy Michelson, Melissa Sweet, Lea-Ann Belter, Paloma Blanca, and Rivini. The gowns are in great condition and many are not available anywhere else in Indiana (and certainly not for rock bottom prices)!

The bridal shop is currently taking appointments and you might want to book early to get the best selection. They are available Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from March 28 through April 20th. Call the shop at 317.733.9280 or visit the website for more information.

The contest ends at midnight on April 30, 2008.

Here’s how you can enter: Send us your story—how you met, your engagement story, your vision for your day, any planning obstacles you’ve faced and why you think you’d need the extra help on your wedding day. Even if you aren’t getting married, send us the story of a couple that you know needs the extra assistance.

More parameters for the contest:

The top 5 stories will be posted on our blog. Be sure to check to see if your story made it to the top! Good Luck and Happy Entering!!
Postscript: Due too many entries at the Zionsville Bridal Show and various overwhelming personal obligations during this whole month, I will not be posting the top 5 stories. Thank you for understanding and for all the well wishes and condolences during this sad time. (4/30/08)

Thanks, On 3 Photography!

What did I do for lunch today?? I went and took some head shots with Anthony of On 3 Photography. He had his equipment set up for another client, so he offered to shoot me, gratis.
So, I mosied myself on over to his office in-between meetings and. . .ta-da!
Photobucket

I feel like I'm back in grammar school on picture day. . .except my outfit wasn't so meticulously planned out. Aside from the errant strand of hair (which was my fault), he made my skin look absolutely radiant! Kudos to Anthony and I'm sure to feature him on this blog as a Velvet Vendor. It's important that you "click" with your photographer personality-wise, as he or she will be with you ALL day. Anthony will surely have you cracking up ALL day!

One of my BFFs in life and in the business was also there at this shoot and it just so happens I took some pics with her over the weekend. I can't wait to see the finished results and I'll be sure to post them, and blog and rave about her, as soon as I get them.

Another Guestbook Alternative

I'm bouncing this post off two others that I saw earlier today: Soiree Special Events and Polka Dot Bride. They are members of my internet wedding family, so I'm sure they won't mind.

Yet, another alternative to the standard, "sign-your-name-here" guestbook: Antique typewriter with a scroll of vellum paper. Make sure the scroll of paper is large enough so that it doesn't have to be changed at all during the course of the evening. Set the typewriter loaded with the paper in a coveted spot at the cocktail hour where everyone can see it. A tall pedestal would be nice and an illuminated cocktail table would be even nicer. Guests can type their messages of love and good fortune to the bride and groom all night. At the close of the wedding celebration and after you and your honey have read all of the well-wishes, tie a wide, double-faced satin ribbon around it and store until your next anniversary!
Has anyone done this before? Please let us know how it worked out by leaving your comments below.

Aaannnndddd CUT!

Photo booths at receptions are all the rage right now. During my internship days, we had the photographer create a photo booth because Indianapolis lacked a photo booth rental company at the time. Kick your wedding reception up a notch by having a video booth instead of your regular ol' photo booth.
Photobucket
Quickly becoming the new Next Big Thing in weddings, interactive video booths allow your guests to channel their inner Halle Berry and act out in front of the camera. It's an intimate way for guests to leave tear-jerking messages, funny homages or incriminating missives to the sweet bride and groom. It is my belief that every amazing wedding reception has something for the invited guests to do besides eat and drink. Add this to your entertainment repertoire and your celebration will surely be notable and exceptional.
Photobucket
The video booths offered by Gabzebo are much like your photo booths: the guests climb in, tap an interactive touch screen and start filming their two-minute short. Gabzebo can even customize the booths to fit in with your color scheme, themes and decor.
Photobucket
Video booths are the true definition of K Sherrie+ Company "wedding bling": something that makes your wedding celebration sparkle and pop. What do you think about this Next Big Thing?

Springtime is Here!

Happy first day of Spring! Celebrate by wearing some peep-toe shoes to work (that's what I did!) or great mini-dress with some colored fishnets. It's almost time to ditch those winter tights, girls!

Would You Dare?

I saw this picture (pg. 38) in the April 2008 edition of Eventline, the publication by Special Events. How funky! How different! How unique! You know how I'm always preaching about couples making their event different than the next. Would you dare have a navy blue wedding cake at your celebration?

I'm so loving that cake right about now. . .

Bling Me

If you've known me for two minutes then you know I'm bananas over anything sparkly and shiny. I heart bling! I was going to save this inspiration board for a later post, but after meeting with my oh-so-charming client last night, who just so happens to love bling and sparkle as much as I do, I thought I'd post it today in her honor.

We're planning an open house for Michelle. She's the oldest of two, a high school senior and the first to graduate, so it's a pretty big deal. After our initial consultation, I had three take-aways: girly, sparkly and pink. A young lady after my own heart! And she's so sweet, sensible and respectable to her parents, we just want to do our best to make this an unforgettable event for her. So, Michelle, my ode to all things that shine is dedicated to you. I'm sure we can manage to get some inspiration from this glittery and brilliant board.

Cocktail Hour, Anyone?

I came across a blog posting detailing one man's adventures at different weddings. Today's post on Writing From the Hip discussed how the author and his wife attended three "really nice weddings" in the past year and they all had a "common black eye." At this point, this is where he tells all wedding planners to listen up--he's come up with a brilliant idea.

The "common black eye" for these weddings was that the guests had nothing to do, eat or drink in the time after the ceremony, but before the dinner started, when the wedding party was out taking their photos. This is how Mr. Nichols explained that time:

That time when all the R.S.V.P. guests sit in front of mounds of mouth-watering food politely waiting for the wedding party. That time when they wait. When they wait. When they wait. And watch fussy food caterers touch up their presentation. And faint. And squirm at a creaky table among strangers. There’s just so much you can say about the pretty centerpiece, huh? And rassle with hungry, squirming little kids. And wait. And try to discreetly change Pampers in a crowd of 200 hungry people. And faint. And twist in bent folding chairs.

Now, as a professional wedding planner, I must ask--isn't this what the cocktail hour is for? And, who, in the new millenium, doesn't have a cocktail hour?? Any planner worth her weight knows you have to have something to entertain the guests during that time. And, one-and-a-half hours for post-ceremony photos?? I know that may be hyperbolic writing, but in reality, cocktail hours should only be what we call "cocktail-45s," as in only 45 minutes. No one should be waiting on a photographer that long. As a professional wedding planner, I know that as soon as guests hit the reception venue, they want something in their hands, and preferably something to eat and to drink. That leads me to more questions: did these weddings even have a wedding planner? If so, was she or he a professional? Did the planner really know what she was doing or did she decide to hang her shingle after planning her cousin's wedding "perfectly?"

Mr. Nichols, this is not new news to the professional wedding planner. We already know there should be some food, drink and entertainment during that time between the end of the ceremony and the start of dinner. I am so sorry you had to starve. This would never happen at a K Sherrie+Company planned wedding (the starving, that is). But I am also glad you brought up the subject. It just further underscores the need for professionals like me. That last thing we want is for guests to leave talking about the really nice wedding that sported that really large "black eye."

Make $250 in Five Minutes

Yes--you read it correctly. Here at K Sherrie+Company, we love referrals! Word-of-mouth and great testimonials are the best marketing tools we could ever ask for. So we want to thank those who think highly enough of our services to recommend them to someone else.

So, theoretically, it should only take you about five minutes to rave and gush over how fabulous we are and how amazingly attentive we are with each bride and groom. When your referral signs on as a K Sherrie client, they won't be the only person getting gifts on their wedding day. That's right: you'll be getting $250--that's like getting paid $50 a minute!

The only stipulations: your name must be mentioned at the time of initial contact; only Emerald Package and above qualify for this referral program.

So, go on and refer away! This offer will be good until December 31, 2008.

The URL Is Working Again!!!

The URL is now redirecting appropriately! Yayy!!

www.theweddingworkroom.com

For those of you who need a web designer, please contact Darrell of Android7. I heart Darrell. I could be selfish, but why not share the wealth? He is an awesome developer. Make sure you mention that Katasha sent you.

Ayo. . .Technology

In my sleepy haze late, late last night, I typed wedding workSHOP instead of wedding workROOM for my new URL. Sorry! So, again: my new URL for my blog is:

www.theweddingworkroom.com

One caveat--the URL and redirect that was working so perfectly yesterday is on the fritz. That's technology for ya *sigh*
So as soon as it's working again, I will re-post. Thanks for your patience!

Photoshop Brushes and New URL

Okay--I just learned about brushes today, and since I want to use one or two or five, I must follow internet protocol and give credit and post a link:

Visit Mel's Brushes for some great Photoshop brushes.

Oh--and I have a new URL for everyone's favorite wedding blog =)
www.theweddingworkshop.com will bring you directly to this site. Quite simple, huh? Just drop the BLOGSPOT out of the previous URL. And now I shouldn't get blocked as spam considering I have a subscription message on all of my business and personal emails. . .

An Eclectic Space for Your Next Event

Photobucket

A few weeks back, I was contacted by Casey of Dean Johnson Gallery. The gallery was interested in providing their space as a venue for Indianapolis brides to host showers, rehearsal dinners or small, intimate ceremonies and receptions. Boy, am I glad that I met with her! The gallery was beautiful! It was a clean, modern space that would be perfect for any smart, chic and stylish bride. The layout of the gallery provides an intimate space to hold most social events. I can just imagine having a wonderful rehearsal dinner for 30 in that space. Bigger is not always better. The best part about having an event in the gallery is that you get to take advantage of the art! When I visited, there was a wonderful display of Japanese kimonos from Linda Arndt. One of the upcoming exhibits is Shoe Fleur—shoes and hats and bags made out of colorful botanicals. What’s not to love about that? And all for $500! Below are some pics that I captured with my camera. I held a little Q&A with Casey and here’s what she had to say:

KSCo: Tell me the history of the building.
CJC: Dean Johnson Gallery, located at 646 Massachusetts Avenue, is a not-for-profit gallery established to support the talents of the Indianapolis arts community. We see the gallery as an expression of the natural relationship between our design business and the commercial, graphic and fine artists of our community. Many artists have become familiar to us through our work and we are glad to be able to provide a place where their work can be enjoyed and appreciated by a larger audience.

KSCo: What is unique about your space and why should brides look here for their intimate events?
CJC: The open spacious floor plan of the gallery along with the natural lighting and architecture not to mention the beautiful art work hanging around the gallery makes for a delightful setting for any occasion.

Photobucket

KSCo: What's the largest party size you can accommodate?
CJC: Cocktail parties can hold about 150-200 people with high-top cocktail tables. Sit down dinner--up to 60 people with tables and chairs and for bridal showers or small ceremonies we can fit up to 60-100 people sitting.

KSCo: Do you work with a list of preferred vendors, or can brides use their own?
CJC: We are flexible and can work with the bride, but do have a list of vendors we like to work with. [Insert shameless plug here: But K Sherrie+Company is a wonderful resource for your planning needs at the gallery!]

Photobucket

KSCo: What future plans do you have for Dean Johnson Gallery in regards to the wedding industry?
CJC: The Dean Johnson Gallery would like to offer a few select brides a year the opportunity to have their events in our space giving them the personal attention they deserve as our client. We are not looking to become a huge part of the wedding industry as much as we are as providing a unique beautiful space for small events and parties that people will cherish for a life time.

Photobucket

Well said, Casey. I’m plotting on what event I can have your gorgeous gallery. So—what do you think? Interested in holding your wedding shindig at the gallery? Contact Casey at 317-634-8020 for more information or to schedule a tour. Or visit their website. Please feel free to comment on how cool it would be to have your next special event in this space! And stay tuned to this blog for a special announcement. . .

The Fashionista Experience

The Fashionista Experience was such a wonderful experience! I was so excited for the party to get here, I was hurried while preparing for it on Saturday and now I'm sad that it's all over! I want another one! But you know what they say about too much of a good thing. . .

At any rate, fifty stylish and tres chic women descended upon the Conrad Hotel last Saturday to enjoy an evening of food, fun, camaraderie and SHOPPING. I did something really fun for the seating assignments. As the fashionistas checked in with my oh-so-charming hostesses, they were told: "Today you will be shopping at. . ." and this is how they were assigned tables. The centerpieces were classic shopping bags resting on a silver platter covered with bling/ice. So, if you were "shopping at Bond No. 9," then you sat at the Bond No. 9 table. Genius, huh? We had other great names such as Barney's, Kate Spade, Tiffany's, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Cole Haan, just to name a few. Those centerpieces were such a hit!

The highlight of the party was the personal fashion show presented by the charismatic Kathy Presley, a personal stylist at Nordstrom. She brought in tons and tons of clothes, shoes and accessories and walked us through the new looks and trends of 2008. Fashionistas were allowed to model the clothing and we even had one fashionista change clothes into the dress she wanted to purchase immediately! That was classic. We were also treated to a demonstration by a Bobbi Brown make-up artist and we learned how to use mascara on your lower lashes without getting it on your face (use a cosmetic sponge and place it under your lashes while applying--hmmmm). I scored that night with the cutest dress by Suzi Chin. I thought I did pretty good on my spending considering I had just bought three pairs of shoes in Nordstrom two days earlier.
I already posted about the delicious menu that we put together for this shindig and it did not disappoint. I think everyone's favorites were the coconut shrimp, the raspberry-flavored tea, the tomato bisque with the garlic cheese crostini and the chocolate mousse, of course. K Sherrie+Company gave away strawberry cupcakes as take home favors--which survived a "situation" right before the party. The bottom of one of the boxes that transported the cupcakes fell out!! We were able to save most of the cupcakes, though.

These are the looks that we found out will be au courant for Spring 2008:
The Gladiator
Primitive Prints
Organic Stones
Ornamentation
Natural Materials
Mixed Stack of Bangles
The Caftan
Safari Style
Exotic Rings
Handmade Details
I think I love it all--swoon! Without further ado, more photos. . .

And, my new dress. . .

I can't wait to get it in the mail. I would like to give a special thanks to all those who helped make this event a fabulous success: Kathy Presley, Monica Whitehead, Jeff and Jeff, Cristina Harris and the always excellent, wonderfully competent and supremely stylish K Sherrie team. What, oh, what, shall we do next??

Frequently Asked Questions

I am about to launch a new page on my website and I thought it would be worhtwhile to give my faithful blog readers a preview. I am going to have an FAQs page on my site that answers most of the questions brides and their mothers (and their mother's mother) want to ask. I hope it's a welcome addition to the site, as we strive at K Sherrie+Company to be as informative as possible. Let me know what you think. Did I leave anything out?

What makes you different from other local planners? Why should someone hire you?
One of our principles at K Sherrie+Company is E.D.E.: Event Design with Excellence. This is what you want for your wedding or special event. This is what you deserve at your wedding or special event. We specialize in excellence! Our design team has a fresh eye for style and detail, we are super organized and we are the team that gets it done. We are dedicated to injecting your uniqueness and your personality into your event. And--we're fun to work with!

Everyone may not need our services. If you have 250 hours to spare to plan an elaborate party and make sure if goes off without a hitch, then you may not need a wedding planner. However, we at K Sherrie+Company have found that today’s professional women and power couples often need assistance in planning one of the largest celebrations of their lives. There is way more involved in planning a wedding than meets the eye. Let us do the research. Let us stay current on trends. Let us worry about your budget. Let us do the legwork. Let us take away the stress of planning a flawless fete.

How do you assist in planning a wedding? What services do you provide?
K Sherrie+Company is a full-service wedding and event planning firm that gives you access to competent, professional and detailed event designers that work for YOU. We will save you time, money and headaches by offering:
Industry Expertise and Counsel
Fiscal Planning
Time Management
Etiquette Guidance
Creative Design
Event Management
We offer several packages ranging from vendor referrals to brainstorming sessions to full-scale, all-encompassing, luxury planning. All of our packages can be tailored and customized to your individual needs.

My reception site comes with a coordinator. Why do I need another one?

The priority of the on-site coordinator that may come with your venue is the venue. K Sherrie+Company works for you. We are your advocate and we are obligated to execute your vision to your exact specifications. We are with you for the entire planning process to ensure that all of your needs are met. Ask yourself these questions: will the on-site coordinator advise me on etiquette and how to word my invitations? Will the on-site coordinator make sure I am staying in my financial comfort zone in all aspects of my wedding? Can the on-site coordinator attend my final dress fitting with me? Is the on-site coordinator willing to visit 3 or 4 ceremony venues to help me pick the best one for the style of my wedding? These are only some of the reasons that you need a wedding planner that is not associated to a particular venue or site.

My budget is already limited. How can I afford a wedding planner?
Honestly, if you have a limited budget, you can’t afford NOT to have a wedding planner! Wedding planners are no longer just for the jet-set. K Sherrie+Company can save you from making costly mistakes. We review your budget and make sure it’s realistic. We also help you maximize your hard earned dollars by prioritizing and making sure you are spending your money where it counts the most. It is our responsibility to make sure you stay within your financial comfort zone. We produce the event of your dreams, including the planner’s fee, all while staying within your budget. And we do all of this without scrimping on quality and style.

Do you recommend specific wedding professionals? Did you get referral fees?
K Sherrie+Company does not accept referral fees (i.e. kickbacks) from any vendors. We do have specific wedding professionals in our little black book of vendors that we can recommend that will fit best in your style of wedding. We only work with vendors with excellent reputations with the same commitment to customer satisfaction as we have. We also try to get the best deal for all of our clients so we can keep you in your financial comfort zone.

Do you employ other people to help you plan events? How much extra for additional staff?
Yes. We have an Event Design team available to manage events of any size. The scope and magnitude of the event dictate how many additional staff members are present at your event. Depending on which package you contract us for determines if additional staff is an additional cost.

What if you become ill or cannot come to the wedding? Who will stand in for you?
We thank the gods for smiling down on us that our lead designer has never missed an event! If this instance should occur, K Sherrie+Company has another well-trained and experienced Event Design Team Lead that is able to step in if the lead designer becomes ill or has some unforeseen emergency. We are also friends with other wedding planners in the city that deliver the same caliber of service that we do. We assist each other if these types of situations arise.

Are you present at all vendor meetings? Do you pay the vendor fees and we pay you one lump sum?
The level of service that we contracted for dictates if we will be present at all vendors meetings. However, K Sherrie+Company is here to give the brides and their families what they want. If you want us to be present at all vendor meetings, we will be present at all vendor meetings.
We do not pay any vendor fees. The contract and subsequent payments are always between the vendor and the client.

When developing our wedding/event budget, how do you personalize this experience to our needs?
K Sherrie+Company always ensures that clients stay within their financial comfort zone. We often strive for you to come in under budget! The first thing we do to achieve this is get to know you and find out what is most important to you on the day of your dreams. Then, we plan accordingly.

How many hours are you on site the day of the wedding/event?
We are on site on the day of the event from start to finish! We are the first ones to arrive on the scene and we are the last ones to leave.

Do you charge for an initial meeting? If so, is this amount credited should we hire you?
K Sherrie+Company offers a complimentary, initial consultation to all prospective clients. If more detailed consultation is desired (storyboards, inspiration boards, etc.), then an hourly fee may apply.

Can you assist with travel plans for out of town guests? Our honeymoon plans?
K Sherrie+Company can assist you with all of your needs surrounding your wedding. Our unique network of vendors allows us to cover all bases when it comes to all things bridal.

Do you charge hourly, a flat rate or a percentage of my overall budget?
K Sherrie+Company provides you with a detailed, custom proposal based on your expectations for your wedding or event. We do not charge a percentage of your overall budget and we do have items available that are charged on an hourly basis. When you contract our services, you are paying for our experience, expertise and professional knowledge. This is completely unrelated to the cost of your wedding. In this way, you never have to worry about us encouraging you to spend more so we can make more money.

How many months in advance do I need to reserve your services for my wedding date?
Twelve to eighteen months out is a great time to start full-planning services for your wedding. However, we can plan your entire day in as little as three months (although that's not preferred!). Month-of-coordination should typically be booked up to six months out. We are willing to work with most timelines and we will let you know upfront if your expectations for your event do not necessarily mesh with your allotted timeframe.

What is your customer satisfaction policy?
K Sherrie+Company wants every client to be thrilled at the results for their event. We are second to none when it comes to the details and we do everything humanly possible to prevent any mishaps from occurring. When they do arise, we will rectify the situation as best we can to the client's satisfaction immediately. It is our philosophy that anticipating and meeting the needs of our clients is not only our utmost priority, but our personal responsibility.

Why Don't You. . .Have an All-White Wedding Cake??

Photobucket

Photobucket

Weddings this year are all about color--bright, bold colors: deep reds, bright pinks, warm oranges and intense purples, to name a few. Give your reception a twist by having an all-white wedding cake. White is the traditional color for weddings and using it only for your sugarpaste or fondant confection while going bright and bold for everything else will surely make your cake cutting ceremony unforgettable.

Photobucket

Photobucket

You can opt for a classic cake or a modern cake. Go for rounds or squares or even oblongs when picking your tier shape. Choose ornate decorations or simple decorations. Just make sure the icing and adornments stay pristine. Using different shades of white on your cake design can provide a sense of depth. Think creams, ivories and off-white embellishments on top of stark white fondant.

Photobucket

An all-white wedding cake is also your cue to go all out with texture. Three-dimensional sugarpaste flowers, fondant draping and sophisticated piping can all accentuate the look of your all-white dessert. Add color from the inside out. Imagine cutting into an all-white dream only to see rich devil's food cake, orange-flavored cake, cherry cake or red velvet cake? Skip the colored pin-lighting as well. Quite often, white weddings cakes are accented with colored pin-lighting to change the appearance and color of the cake. This time, you want to show off your cake in its unspoiled, all-white glory.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Any cake design or pattern can be made in the all-white palette. See a particular colorful cake you like? Take a picture to your baker and ask her to recreate it in your neutral color scheme. Experiment with the textures, flavors and embellishments and you're sure to come up with a winner. Anyone like the all-white wedding cake idea at a color-laden wedding celebration? The Art of Tablescapes

Two of my wedding planner friends recently participated in The Art of the Table 2008. This event is a showcase of designer tablescapes sponsored by the Association of Bridal Consultants Indiana Chapter to benefit the Betty Jackson Memorial Education Fund, the Dorothy Penner Memorial Scholarship and the American Cancer Society. It took place at the Indianapolis Museum of Art on Sunday, February 24th. The Art of the Table allows wedding planners and event designers to come together and present their talents through the art of tablescapes and raise money for a worthy cause. Here is what Camille and Kyna of Elite Bridal Consulting presented for everyone's viewing pleasure:

In their own words:

Eclectic Asian Infusion
Take your wedding to a destination of distinctive and timeless Asian glamour at this feng shui inspired fete. Traditional Japanese adornments of bento boxes and chopsticks set the stage for a warm, stylish and unmatched celebration of love. As a chic palette of rich Tokyo red and gold dances in a sea of candlelight, impeccable touches of cherry blossoms emit an undeniable air of romance. From guest table to cake table, a fusion of classic, ornate detail and modern Asian sophistication is driven by stellar beauty. This exquisite scene invites you to revel in the alluring ambiance
and embrace the unique bride in you.

Well done, Camille and Kyna! There is only one thing that I would have done differently. Do you, dear reader, know what that would be? Leave your comments about this wonderfully designed and inspired tablescape and look for K Sherrie+Company Weddings and Event Design at The Art of the Table 2009.

New Feature on the Blog

Hear ye! Hear ye!
The Wedding Workroom has added some link love!

I've finally gotten around to adding links to some of my favorite blogs. This has been on my to-do list for quite some time and I've finally started. I plan to divide the links between SOCIAL and BUSINESS, since I'm always reading both types. When I'm complete with adding all my links, I'll be sure to post about it, so you can also see where I get some of my daily inspiration from.

Signature Drink of the Month

The signature drink for this month is the Chocolate Raspberry Martini. An scrumptious combination of raspberries and cocoa, this siggy is sure to delight your guests at your reception. Super simple to make, this cocktail incorporates Stirrings, the smart girl's best friend when it comes to making fabulous and tasty drinks without much effort. Check out their website: they have a whole section dedicated to weddings and events and designing your perfect signature cocktail.
