Signature Drink of the Month

It's been around for a while and it's here to stay. Not only does a signature drink at the reception bring in the personality of the couple, it can also cut costs. What's NOT to love about it??

The signature drink (affectionately known as "siggys" by those who know the Fabu-Luxe Terrica Skaggs) brings uniqueness and charm to your event. You can choose your signature drink by picking a drink that coordinates with the colors or theme of your wedding, a drink that has special meaning to you as a couple, or you can just pick your favorite drink! The best part of having a siggy at your reception is picking a cool name for it. For an upcoming retirement party that KSCo is planning, we will be serving "The Enforcer." The guest of honor is retiring from the police force and what a fitting name for Hennessy and Coke<--his favorite drink. Just don't get too crazy. . .not sure how many guys want to walk around sipping a "Pink Panties."

As a general rule of thumb, when you pick your signature drink, you want to pick a libation that appeals to wide audiences and is not too strong. You may even want to consider a "mocktail" version of your signature drink for your guests that don't imbibe. You can have the siggys butler-passed during cocktail hour or you can have the catering/bartending staff mix up large pitchers and guests can serve themselves. Mini-martini glasses are making a comeback for serving everything from truffles to ceasar salads to shrimp cocktail shooters. Here's a novel idea: use them for what they were intended! Serve your signature drinks during the cocktail hour in mini-martini glasses.

Siggys are also a cost-effective option for your reception. Having a champagne toast and only serving your signature drink with a soft bar can amazingly slash your food and beverage bill.

So without further ado--here is The Wedding Workroom's Signature Drink of the Month. We will present a signature drink every month that falls within the season, themes and trends of the year. Our first siggy will go very well with the purple explosion predicted for weddings this year: The Sugar Plumtini. It's awesome purple color will help you set the mood in your purple paradise. The ingredients:

Sugar Plumtini

3 oz. grape vodka

1/4 oz. blue curacao

1/4 oz. grenadine

Splash of tonic water

Shake all ingredients over ice. Strain and serve straight up in martini glasses garnished with sugar. Our last, but most important point is: presentation is everything. Present your siggys on beautiful trays, garnished with flowers and other accoutrements that tie in to the theme of your wedding. If the guests will be serving themselves, make your drink station as beautiful as your guest tables.

What is your favorite signature drink? What has been the best drink you've ever had at a wedding reception? I'd love to hear from you. Until next month, here's to you! And here's to hoping that I don't pass out on those "Enforcers!"
